My Favorite Baby Carrier
Currently, my favorite baby carrier is the Baby K'tan Active (also available on Amazon). First off, I am not sponsored by any company; I just love this product and any product I share. I have this carrier in the coral color, and I also have the Baby K'tan Organic in the Natural. Reasons why I love this product.
1. Easy Wrap!
It has all the benefits and comforts of a wrap, but it is simplified and half the work is done for you. At first, the loops intimidated me, but after following the instruction videos on their website with the product and baby in hand, it was SUPER simple.
2. Quick to Put On
I live in Florida, and the second I get out of the car, my car starts HEATING UP. So it's nice to have something quick and easy to throw on in under 10 seconds, pop the baby in, and I'm on my way!
3. Airy Fabric
Once again, I live in Florida, and it is HOT. ALL. YEAR. ROUND. So I needed something that was breathable. I originally had just the Organic, but I purchased the Active so my daughter would not be drowned in my sweat. I still love the Organic and wear it occasionally, but I prefer the Active.
4. Grows with Baby
Well it doesn't exactly grow, but there are different ways to wear your baby 8 to 35lbs. (Consult pediatrician for smaller babies - personally I did wear my baby once she reached 7 lb range.) There are 6 possible positions to wear baby. I know my baby is usually ready for the next stage when she is consistently no longer comfortable or content in the position I have been wearing her in.
5. Space Saver
I have a small 1 bedroom apartment so I have to be a bit of a minimalist and every inch counts. The wrap acts as its own storage bag which fits in my purse and my diaper backpack. Super easy for quick outings and when I have my hands full as usual.
6. Sunblock
90% of the sun's UVA and UVB rays are blocked. Again for a Florida, summer baby, that is SUPER important to me.
7. Appearance
I don't know about you, but I also like to look nice/cute. I love having something thin, not overbearing, fitted on my body rather than anything bulky - helps visibility and working around the house and cleaning for me. But that is my personal experience so far with it. I also love the bright coral color. It's just fun!
Now I will admit there are some negatives to it.
1. No adjustability
My husband can't wear either of my K'tans because he is a medium, and my Organic is a small, and the Active is an extra small. He can make the Organic work, but it's a little tight for both my daughter and him. Side note, if you are in between sizes to go with the smaller size. It's better for it to be more fitted than loose. This is another reason I purchased the extra small Active after owning the small Organic once I started loosing the baby weight, but nothing my sewing machine couldn't fix either.
2. Wraps are Not for Everyone
Every parent is different and every child is unique; so don't worry if it's not for you. I knew I wanted a wrap; I knew that fit my personality, my style and my overall preference; so I went with it. And it worked. Some of my friends thought the same thing, but it didn't work for them. Specifically women who were heavy chested and carrying that on the front already takes a toll on your back and adding baby didn't help the cause. Or women who were VERY slim did not feel comfortable wearing it, because it does rely on your curves to hold up or again with the lack of adjustability they didn't have an XXS (sewing it an inch or so down on each loop MAY help a little with this).
3. Geographical Climate Dependant
If you live in a very cold climate, you may want to get the Organic or one of their other carriers to fit your geographical climate and personal body temperature preferences. But if you wear polyester clothes comfortable and assuming you don't live in the arctic, you are good.
4. Fabric can get smelly like gym clothes
It is made from 100% polyester which is what gym clothes are normally made out of. They have a weird smell over time, but thankfully this wrap is also machine washable so you can wash it as often as you need to.
5. Not Organic
Obviously, it is 100% polyester, and it is not environmentally friendly. It is a synthetic fabric and dyes. They could improve this by using a recyclable polyester, but I'm not sure how that will affect the other benefits of the product.
I hope this helps you decide on a baby carrier whether it is the Active or another brand entirely.
Thank you for reading!
